Het winterswijkwandkleed | 2016 | Code Rood | Arnhem (NL)
This presentation at art initiative CODE ROOD gave the opportunity to step into my childhood memories. For one week I moved my studio to the gate house of Buitenplaats Koningsweg and worked nonstop to fill one room with a panoramic painting and another with lifesize drawings. The area of the gate house reminded me of my childhood holidays in the Achterhoek, an area in the east of the Netherlands. I wanted to reconsruct the happy and secure feeling I had during these holidays. I made drawings of the clothes made by my mother and worn by me when I was a child, scaled up to my current size. I could imagine wearing these clothes again and relive my childhood; free and careless. In the other room you stepped into a panorama based on old holiday pictures from the area of the Dutch village Winterswijk: pictures of the walks in the area, the typical farms and the swing next to the holiday home. Standing in the middle of the room you were surrounded by my translation of the forest and the meadows of the Achterhoek.
