ABOUT

Raised by a biologist and an artist, the work of Britt Dorenbosch (1986) has always lived at the intersection of nature, colour and human connection. Through layered collages, paintings and papier-mâché sculptures, she explores the intimate world of motherhood, family memory and shared identity.
What did you receive from home? And what do you pass on? These are the questions at the heart of her multidisciplinary practice. Dorenbosch seeks the answers not through grand statements, but through the quiet, disarming simplicity of daily life. Chubby toddler hands peeling a mandarin, a halved pear echoing the memory of birth, a downward glance during pumping: seemingly ordinary moments, carefully chosen to hold the weight of motherhood and childhood memory alike. These quiet, carefully chosen moments hold more than they show. Beneath their softness lies a sharp question: is there truly space for motherhood in our society, and can a mother also be an artist?
The work of Dorenbosch is an ode to mothers and parents, tracing the complexity of femininity, love and care, and how our choices quietly shape the generations that follow. It is an intimate journey through family, fertility and feminine strength, and a personal search for belonging across generations.
Britt Dorenbosch lives and works in Utrecht
Her recent sculpture How it Feels To Grow Within, created in collaboration with the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital, was shown at Good Mom Bad Mom at the Centraal Museum Utrecht (2025).
