Britt Dorenbosch (1986)
Lives and works in Utrecht (NL)

Where do you feel at home? What's the origin of you fascinations? Who are you?

With colourful drawings and paintings Britt Dorenbosch shows her direct surroundings. Researching objects that she encounters in everyday life, she looks beyond material characteristics and investigates the stories that objects contain. Here she finds the reason to celebrate the power and pleasure of painting.

Her work evolves around identity and a sense of home. How well do we know the things that surround us and how do they define us? Everything seems to refer back to her childhood: the plants in her living room, the coloured floor rugs, a piece of beetroot. Because home is not based on autonomic choices, the objects we collect are a representation of nostalgia. By zooming in and out of her everyday objects (in a way that one recollection can be more detailed than others) Britt Dorenbosch puts material as well as the immaterial on a pedestal.
