Rijnstate Hospital in Arnhem asked me to design a mural for their GP surgery. The artwork was intended to create a calming and relaxing atmosphere, whilst at the same time offering those waiting a distraction during the long wait. Nature became the starting point. Being surrounded by plants and animals has a calming effect on me. The wall-filling works are enlarged A3-sized collages full in which I used my own vegetable garden, houseplants and nearby fields of flowers as inspiration. From a distance, you can enjoy the whole landscape. Up close, you can marvel at the layers of paper, the different brushstrokes and pencil lines. And perhaps you’ll even spot a chicken darting away among the leaves.
